🖥️ The Case: Dell Latitude E7450 – Power On, No Display
A customer rushed into our Doha shop with a Dell Latitude E7450. “It powers on,” he said, “but nothing shows on the screen.” No display, no boot logo, no BIOS. He had important work files on the SSD and was hoping it could be saved — without losing data.

🔍 First Sign: RAM Voltage Drop
After disassembling the laptop and checking the basics — charger input, 3.3V/5V rails, and SIO power — we inserted RAM to test.
What we found surprised us:
RAM voltage coil dropped from 1.35V to just 0.5V when RAM was inserted.
Without RAM, the coil showed 1.35V as expected. With RAM — low voltage and no display.
🧪 Digging Deeper: MOSFET Gate/Source Short
We tested the MOSFETs responsible for generating RAM voltage. The gate and source were shorted — a strong indication of a failed gate driver or PWM controller IC.
That’s when we looked near the RAM power section and found the key suspect: APW8813A.
⚠️ The Culprit: APW8813A IC (PWM Controller)
The APW8813A controls the buck regulator that powers the RAM. This tiny chip was faulty — even though it looked clean on the outside. Internally, it was shorting the gate and pulling down the RAM voltage.
🔧 The Fix: Replace and Revive
We used hot air (around 380°C) to safely remove the damaged APW8813A. After cleaning the PCB pads, we carefully soldered a brand-new IC.
The result?
✅ 1.35V RAM voltage stable
✅ Display back on screen
✅ Laptop booted into Windows without data loss
The Dell E7450 was fully working again.
